A story from Laura Lea

I have had the privilege of reading all of these wonderful stories and visiting with family members asking questions and gaining a greater appreciation and love for my family members.  I hope that you also feel that appreciation and love for our family members as you read their contributions.  I truly think we each have something worth sharing with each other.  I have loved reading about lessons learned from parents and grandparents, how several of us made it through trials and came out stronger because of it, and answers to prayers.

This week, I am choosing  from Aunt Lorna Gail's branch of the family tree.  Laura Lea submitted several beautiful, short stories.  I couldn't choose just one.

If the thought enters your mind, "Maybe I should share that" please do.  The things that inspire and matter to you will matter to others.  Email, fill out the form or call me at 801-414-9408 to add something.

Dad is Still Helping

December 2019 -

I was trying to sand some wood for a craft project I was doing. Not knowing for sure what I was doing because my dad always did things like that for me. Out of the blue, I heard my dad’s voice in my head say "I've told you before, sand with the grain of the wood."I followed his direction and they turned out awesome. I  know  that from this and many other times that He is not very far away and is still looking out for me even when I'm doing my little projects that he used to get aggravated with when asked  to help with them.

A Time of Fear A Time of Prayer

August 30,  2008 - Labor day weekend what was planned to be our annual family camping trip. Shayann woke me up gasping for air at about 2 a.m.. I took her over to Rogers trailer because I knew he had a nebulizer there for one of his kids. I gave Shay two treatments. It didn't help. I ran over to Belle's tent. With Belle's nursing expertize we felt we needed help, so with Belle driving, we headed down the canyon as fast as possible. We prayed that no cows, deer or ect. would be in the road. Shay stopped breathing and became unresponsive. I gave her mouth to mouth and prayed some more. As we got to town, Belle said "We're not going to make it to Price" She pulled into Maverick, jumped out and dialed 911. A cop seen us pull in like we did. He came to see what the problem was. (By this time Shay had started to come around.) Seeing the problem, he called for an ambulance and to forget the paramedics. They all came anyway. Some even in their house shoes. We went in the ambulance to Castleview Hospital where she spent the next 3-4 days in ICU. They diagnosed it as asthma triggered by the camp fire and high elevation. Whatever it was, it was a time of fear, prayer, and more prayer but it turned out ok.

To this day Shayann is very careful about campfires and smoke in general.

In the Right Place at the Right Time

In the Summer of 2000, Garron was 5-6 years old. Garron and Cylon was at a birthday party at the Price City wave pool. The life guards had called everyone out of the pool so they could clean it. Everyone got out except a small group of boys that was pulling someone out and was calling for the life guard. The life guard jumped in and took over as they got Garron to the edge of the pool. He was not breathing and was very "blue". The life guard started CPR. There happened to be a Dr from Price and one from Vernal there with their families that came and helped.  Garrons' pulse was weak and he had blood in his mouth so while a life guard called 911, 1 of the drs stablized Garrons head.   The birthday boy's mom called me and I met them at the hospital praying all the way. Garron was in ICU for 2-3 days. He came out with a real fear of water to be with him for the remainder of his life.

Prayers Offered for the Safe Arrival of Cylon

It was a Sunday Aug. 25, 1991, while pregnant  I started to think that there were problems going on. So on Monday the 26th I called my doctors office. They told me to get in there to be checked.  The dr told me to go to the hospital. So mom took me to the hospital and they  got me set up to start the labor process. (I wasn't having any contractions before this.) Lots of prayers for me and my baby were being said. Soon they had the med as high as they could and I still wasn't doing what I should have so they stopped it. I had to stay in the hospital for fear of infection setting in. The dr would come in everyday. One day he told me that if I did have  the baby then, he would have been shipped up north to primary childrens because of being born to early. (I wasn't due until  Oct. 3.) Then another day he said that if I didn't have him they would have to ship me up north for more care. Finally  on Aug. 30th I went into labor on my own. On Sept 1, 1991, Cylon was born via a c section. Labor Day weekend and I labored 33 hours. I am so grateful for all the prayers that were said in our behalf throughout this time of fear.
